7/22 - 7/23 Banff
Our arrival is met with the dramatic effect of a glacier on a mountain. The views are hard to describe.
Ok, in addition to being snobby and too upscale, the town of Banff was all torn up for sewer repairs. That did not deter a gajillion tourists like us from wandering around.
Then on to Lake Louise. It really is as pretty as you see in pictures. Talk about a crowded parking lot....another tourist attraction.
Lake Moraine, near Lake Louise, has this unbelievable blue color due to the effects of "rock flour" created by the grinding action of the glacier on the the mountain rock. When the rock flour is being deposited in rivers, however, it gives them an unpleasant milky look.
Our first real spectacular glacier. The bluer the ice, the older the glacier.
We stayed in a really nice, campground, Waterfowl Lake Campground, but we did not get pictures.
