5/12 Stormy at Arches, on to Goblin Valley
Here we are huddled with the big guys as the wind was really rocking everyone. We "decided" that rather than try to go through the Arches again (we were here two years ago), we would drive in the rain and wind to our next destination -- except we didn't know where that would be. We went north and west and got into Green River too early to camp in the rain.
We headed west on I-70 but decided that I-70 in Utah was not keeping with the spirit of the trip. We therefore headed south again on highway 24 toward Capitol Reef (as we did last year), and decided to risk a 12 mile detour (7 supposedly unpaved) to the Goblin Valley State Park. Thankfully, the road was all paved and the rain was subsiding.
It may be hard to see, but our campground is right up against the scenery. Fortunately, we got the last campsite and the sound of the few remaining showers on our roof helped us fall asleep that night.
