Aug 13: We get nervous and end up at Humbug Mtn.

Thursday is nervous time. Rv's all over the place and it is likely that most of the campgrounds will be filled for the weekend. We decide to get close to our weekend destination of Harris State Park (Brookings) so that we can get there early Friday to see if a reservation had been canceled. We took the scenic loop out of Coos Bay, stop for lunch at Sunset Beach, but press on. We pass a number of campgrounds with "full" signs but finally find a state campground at the base of a mountain that rises from the ocean. The hillsides are steep and covered with thick undergrowth and trees -- all swept in the direction that strong daily winds had groomed them. (We had our GPS system try to take us on another terror ride to the other Humbug Mtn park that resulted in having to back down a road to get out of the fix we were in.) Humbug Mtn State Park was full of kids and family reunions. Everyone had a campfire going and the air was thick with smoke. Fortunately, the air was crisp and the sleeping good. Dominoes has been going a little better for the champ.
