Aug 5-6 We escape to the Coast of Washington
With heat and wildland fire smoke in the forecast, we decide to head to the coast of Washington -- risky in summer -- cold, foggy, and just downright gloomy. We head west through Centralia towards the Long Beach area of the south coast of Washington. We spent the night in a state campground that had been all but isolated by a flood taking out the main bridge. The campground kind of looked like a campground version of the Bates Motel and you had to take a perilous one lane bridge that was so narrow that we had to line ourselves up in a field across from the bridge! However, the people were friendly, Alexa found a very valuable ring which we hope made it back to its owner, and we woke up alive. The place was so memorable we forgot to take any pictures of it.
On the road again, we stopped at a famous local dry good store (an 1800's version of Walmart).
