June 4 - Heading West again towards Cedar Breaks

Windy and cloudy days in Moab and back home spur us to hit the road. We decide to go West again-- towards Cedar Breaks. The rest stop at the San Rafael Swell (I-70) gives you a glimpse of what is down in Capital Reef. An uplifting in the ground millions of years ago produced a dome that has mainly eroded, leaving this "edge to nowhere" along I-70. We are getting pounded by wind, gas mileage drops from 18.9 to 15.9, and it looks like my SteerSafe addition has helped in managing the blasts of wind that whip a high profile vehicle like ours around.

South along 89 we began to see evidence of the lakebed that made up this area way back. We decide not to risk going all the way to Cedar Breaks and not get a camping spot. Found a lovely $6 Forest Service campground at Panguich Lake about 15 miles away. Good thing too, as we found that the campground in Cedar Breaks is closed because of snow.
