June 30 and July 1 -- John Day

From the mountains back down to the prairie again. We took a quick pit stop in John Day (the town) and visited the delightful Kam Wah Chung & Co Museum.




Then it is off to find our nice campground (they all seem to be pretty good in Oregon) at the Clyde Holliday State Park.

Next day we venture to the John Day fossil beds. It is like we are suddenly back in the Southwest! After the museum, we hike up Blue Canyon --




Sadie is not too thrilled with this hike -- especially when she finds out there are 26 footbridges to cross!Sadie gives up and has to be carried over most of the bridges -


Can't recall what kind of fossil this was but we were impressed....
